Abstract:
Gratuity: An Analysis of Tipping Behaviors in U.S. Restaurants by Charlotte Gates. This research will include a literature review of previous studies done with regards to tipping in restaurants throughout the United States. As the title suggests, this research will examine the independent variables that explain certain tipping behaviors in customers, such as the race, ethnicity, gender, age, or physical attractiveness of the server. The methods of my own personal research will include an experimental design of a lab experiment with a restaurant scenario using the survey tool Qualtrics.
Abstract:
GME and its Effects on the Market by Ryan Edwards, Benjamin Geloff, Jie Merrick, Sukhbir Singh and Tiehoua Marcel Tano. GameStop (GME)-- We picked GME simply because we came to a conclusion that out of the meme stocks such as AMC, NOK and BB that GME had the most information and data to work with. With this project our team would like to learn a combination of things. First, we would like to learn how this craze or trend had started with this meme stock and why did funds short GME instead of other gaming corporations? Second, we would like to learn how social media such as Twitter, Reddit, Instagram and more had helped the boost/moon effect of GME. We will do the first part by correlating the jump of the stock from CNBC to see the date of when this started to occur and to correlate this trend with the second part and see how social media played a role in this influx of data. Third, we also would like to learn how younger generations can impact a stock price. We will do this part by looking into the behavior of younger generations and see how Yolo (you only live once) or Fomo (fear of missing out) and how this behavioral aspect might play a crucial role in decreasing or increasing the stock. Correlating with the fourth part our team thinks it is also beneficial to cover the risks and benefits that could come along with trading a meme stock such as GME which can make it easier to understand why younger generations may be engaging in trading GME. Fifth, we would like to learn how fundamental investing can play a role in increasing a meme stock. We will do this by looking into each individual stock GME and the fundamentals behind the stock. This will be done by looking into P/E ratios, Dividend yield and Beta and more of each stock. This will show us if these stock increases were justified or to see if at the time if the stock was undervalued or overvalued. Doing this will be able to show us if the increase around these positions was truly just a meme and social media hype, or if the fundamentals of each stock had justified their price or even a combination of both could have caused this issue. Sixth, something else we can learn is who are the big players like (Fidelity) and the risk management at these big players and Hedge Funds and how they had a role in impacting GME. We can also look into the big players and Hedge Funds and see how they were able to short over 100% of GME. Lastly, we are going to talk about the consequences and benefits a situation like this can bring to the market, economy and as retail investors (not only limited to the young generation).
