General Note:
A Brief History of Quest- In 1979, the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee (SCAC), then known as the Faculty Research Committee (FRC), wanted to develop ways to encourage more research on campus. One suggestion was to have a Scholarly Activities at Oswego Conference Day, where faculty could present their research to the campus community. FRC Chair Dr. Helen Daly organized the day, and it was decided to call it Quest ’80, in honor of the College’s “quest for knowledge.” Quest had an impressive 77 presentations that first year. After the second Quest day, the following year, the administration knew that Quest would be a successful annual program, and canceled classes for the first time for Quest ’82, and this practice has continued ever since. In 1980, all of the Quest presentations were in Hewitt Union. For Quest ’93, Lanigan was used extensively for the first time. Now Quest is spread between the Campus Center, the Shineman Center, and other buildings on campus. Few students presented their work in the original Quest ’80; now students give the majority of presentations. Quest ’96 was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Daly, who died in 1995, because she took the concept of Quest and turned it into reality.
General Note:

3KEYNOTEBruce Coville is the author of 102 books for children and young adults, including the international bestseller My Teacher Is An Alien, and the wildly popular Unicorn Chronicles series. His works have appeared in over a dozen languages and won Children’s Choice awards in over a dozen states, including twice in California. He has been, at various times, a toymaker, a magazine editor, a gravedigger, an assembly line worker, a cookware salesman, and an elementary school teacher (second and fourth grades). He left teaching in 1981 to devote himself to becoming a full-time writer — though it took another ve years to achieve that goal! He is also the founder of Full Cast Audio, an audiobook publishing company devoted to producing full cast, unabridged recordings of material for family listening. As a young reader he loved Mary Poppins and Dr. Dolittle. He also read lots of things that some people consider less highbrow (Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Tom Swift, and zillions of comic books). His only real regret is the time he spent watching television, when he could have been reading instead. (A mind is a terrible thing to waste!) His rst book, The Foolish Giant, was published in 1978, illustrated by his wife, Katherine Dietz. This was followed in 1979 by Sarah’s Unicorn, also illustrated by Dietz. After a period of working separately, the couple began collaborating again, with Space Brat and Goblins in the Castle, both published in 1992. Coville earned a B.S. in Childhood Education from SUNY Oswego, and, along with his many literary awards, the Oswego Alumni Association honored him with a Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1998; the State University of New York system awarded him an honorary Doctor of Letters degree in 2003. He lives in Syracuse. Bruce Coville Bestselling Author, Publisher Ripples Become Waves: How What You Do Now May Mean More Than You Can GuessCampus Center Auditorium, 10 am

THANK YOU The staff of Quest 2014 would like to thank the following people, who helped make Quest 2014 possible: Darlene Abrantes Richard Back William Bosch Shannon Chillson Lorrie Clemo Sandra Cotter Robert Hageny Brad Korbesmeyer Alok Kumar Patricia MacNeill Stephen McAfee Fritz Messere Maria Nakamura Tim Nekritz Melissa Paestella Michael Pisa Marie Potter Susan Price Jeffrey Rea Lisa Seppi Richard Skolnick Barbara St. Michel Holli Stone Rose Throop A Brief History of QuestIn 1979, the Scholarly and Creative Activity Committee (SCAC), then known as the Faculty Research Committee (FRC), wanted to develop ways to encourage more research on campus. One suggestion was to have a Scholarly Activities at Oswego Conference Day, where faculty could present their research to the campus community. FRC Chair Dr. Helen Daly organized the day, and it was decided to call it Quest , in honor of the College’s “quest for knowledge.” Quest had an impressive 77 presentations that rst year. After the second Quest day, the following year, the administration knew that Quest would be a successful annual program, and canceled classes for the rst time for Quest , and this practice has continued ever since. In 1980, all of the Quest presentations were in Hewitt Union. For Quest , Lanigan was used extensively for the rst time. Now Quest is spread between the Campus Center, the Shineman Center, and other buildings on campus. Few students presented their work in the original Quest ; now students give the majority of presentations. Quest was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Daly, who died in 1995, because she took the concept of Quest and turned it into reality.
