Abstract:
Presentation slides from a community talk at the 15th annual Sportsmanship Day Symposium at the State University of New York at Oswego on Thursday, March 2, 2023, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in Lanigan Hall. A presentation on the history of the Paralympic Games and Movement and its similarities and differences from the Olympic Games and Movement, with a focus on inclusion, mutual respect, and fairness for all. Highlights include the predecessor to the Paralympics, the Stoke Mandeville Games, and founder Sir Dr. Ludwig Guttman, as well as examples of modern-day sportsmanship in loss, including notable moments from the London 2012 and Tokyo 2020 summer Paralympic Games.
